I visited Spa on Penn recently for a 90-minute massage. I have been there before and have had pleasant experiences, but this time was very different. I reached out to Spa On Penn to make them aware of the poor experience in hopes others wouldn't have to feel the same way, but I have yet to receive a response. The staff seem stressed out and overworked, especially my masseuse, who had shaking hands and unsteady breath the entire time during my massage, creating a very stressful environment. The room I was in was really dirty on the floor, there was no where to put my clothes but the ground, I could hear every conversation happening in the hallway, and my masseuse's lack of ability to catch their breath and calm their hands during my massage was extremely unsettling. I used to recommend Spa On Penn to anyone who asked. I think everyone deserves a second chance, but with zero response from the spa after sharing my poor experience, I do not recommend visiting. UPDATE: I wanted to provide an update to this review. I have been contacted by a senior staff person. The spa noted how they have or plan to address what I shared with them, and offered a complimentary massage. I’m not comfortable returning, but I wanted to update that they got back to me and are trying to make up for my experience.

My friend and I came here for an hour long massage and the massages were mediocre. My massage therapist only concentrated on digging his elbows into my back pretty harshly and didn’t even massage my arms or my head like my friend’s massage therapist did. He only worked on my legs for maybe 10 minutes. My friend and myself were both very sore the next 2 days. Then it came time to payment which was an absolute disaster! I was told my gift card I used had 200 on it but when I went to pay, the guy at the desk had to look up the gift card in another system which took forever and then he told me there was only 105 on the card. Fine, whatever we will pay the difference. I had given 10 in cash then the other 95 on a card and we left a 60 tip for the massage therapists. The next day I got a call that his card system had timed out and he still needed the 95 payment. Then I received the receipt through email and it said the services were only 200 instead of the 210 they required us to pay. I emailed them back and asked for our 10 refund but it’s been a week and I still have yet to receive a response or refund. It may only be 10 but it’s the fact of the matter and the terrible experience. 10/10 will never return and will never recommend this place.

I received a gift certificate and purchased merchandise from the Spa Store on September 30, 2020. I waited and waited for shipment to arrive. Well, a month later I called again and spoke to Steve. He said there was a mixup and that my order was being shipped the next day. I finally received half of my order. The packing slip said that the 2nd part of my order will be shipped directly from manufacturer. Needless to say I am still waiting. Have left numerous messages all saying will give message to Steve. Still have not heard back.

I realize life is different with COVID but this was the worst experience I have ever had at a spa. The doors are locked, you have to call to be let in. They sit you in seats by the door. I had to pre-pay and include my tip. (WHAT?!?!) I have literally NEVER been asked to tip before a service was provided. This could go either way, what if it was the best massage of your life and you wanted to tip extra? The massage tech was super nice but it was an extremely painful massage. Next time, go for the relaxation and not deep tissue. The bed had an egg carton under the heater and the sheets were so thin I'm pretty sure my entire body was visible. Overall, the people were kind and professional but I would never pay 180 for the service that was provided in those conditions.

LOVE this place. I can't get enough of their services. I just keep coming back and always have a great experience. Their hours are awesome and I can always get a massage scheduled even if it is last minute. I would definitely recommend starting with the hydrotherapy bath. Best way to start the spa experience. If you are looking for a spa in the KC metro, look no further.
