This place is disgusting. There's no yard space for the dogs to run or get exercise. They're trapped in kennels 24/7 surrounded by their own pee and poop. There are multiple dogs in one kennel. When they get fed, the workers aren't concerned when one of the dogs doesn't eat. The dogs always seem sick. Now, they have a rule that you can't take pictures. Obviously they know that their business is wrong and harmful. They need to be shut down. Those dogs are way too expensive. They barely even get sunlight. When you walk in, in the far back room, where you can't go, there are kennels stacked on top of each other full of dogs, and in the back, behind The Velvet Poodle, where visitors can't see unless you sneak around, there's a kennel for big dogs. It's covered in poop and pee. They aren't properly groomed or taken care of. Their anxiety is through the roof, because they don't get the proper attention they need.

Heather cuts my Bichon best of all other groomers in town. Every single time I am in the store the animals are well kept and presented very well, happy and comfortable. Not once have I ever seen any neglect to any animal. NOT ONCE (or I would not go there). Slander is the worst!!! Thou shall not bear false witness! I am the biggest animal advocate there is. I think you all are expecting perfection. Does a puppy have to have poop scooped 1 minute after they go. Get real!!! That would be tough to be that perfect. My grandparents raised poodles and we loved them and had so much fun. Stop the slander!!!

Growing up in Sioux City my family and I always visited Velvet Poodle to look at the puppies. I always left with tears as for I felt bad for the puppies and wanted to take them all home with me. About 5 years ago my mom and I went to look at the puppies and ended up leaving with a Golden Retriever puppy who ended up being one of the best dogs we’ve ever had. 2 years after that when I was in college I went to velvet poodle again ( as I often did ) and left with a female Labrador retriever. She ended up and still is the best dog I have ever had. I got paper work and everything about my dog, Charlee. I looked up where they had gotten her from and she and her brother had came from a great breeder in Iowa. Although my dog did have kennel cough and worms she has been the best thing to happen to me! I am sad to hear Velvet Poodle is closing because I would definitely get another dog from there. Although I do believe the conditions could be a lot better, they have approved over the years. These puppies are no different and need homes as well!

I purchased an "English bulldog" from this place 3 years ago. Paid 1500, and she started to show signs that she was either a mix breed, or different type of bulldog. I was pissed, but I loved her none the less. After 1 year, I had to surrender her. She showed signs of abuse when I bought her as she was food aggressive towards my pug. She began to bite at 4 months of age, and by 1 year she was too aggressive for myself and my family. We were nothing but a loving home and would never hurt our animals. My vet said asked where I got her, and when I told him he said she was probably not given enough food for herself and her siblings. That's where the food aggression came from, and it progressed as she got older.

Be aware buying from this place of business means you are buying animals that are being abused and they are always sick with some type of illness some which have been reported to make the new owners sick. I personally won't buy from them as I seen sick pets first hand and have seen pets my friends and family have bought die due to illnesses.. They have been investigated before under the old owner and so she sold it only to repurchase it again recently so nothing has changed and they are once again under investigation please do your homework and do not support these ignorant people. Animals deserve love not the hell they get treated as here at this place.

So sorry for the people who had a horrible experience ... I was unsure when we first purchased our Doberman (@9weeks old), he was a bit over the skinny side and tiny but after good eating and training this dog has literally tripled his size and weight he’s amazing! but is also very healthy. He's now HUGE, As I've been told by his vet he will be one big dobey! He is now a little over a year and is such an amazing dog, Very smart and obedient. I can say I'm glad we took him in our home and is now part of our family!
