Anacortes ferry terminal gets you to the San Juan Islands. It's busy in the summer, and a reservation on WSDOT is highly recommended. You'll need to plan to be here 45-60 min before departure. Because you'll have some time on your hands, I recommend walking on the boardwalk down on the beach. I'll attach some photos. This nature walk-through is beautifully done and nice and informative. Just be sure to be back to your car before the boat starts to load. Enjoy your trip to the San Juans!

Nice ferry terminal. Areas to walk along the beach and stretch your legs. Dog area also. Bathroom are pretty good. Snack shack near the ferry car waiting lines. Nice ferry terminal waiting area with another snake shack with hamburgers and other stuff to eat. Souvenir shop is also next to the waiting area. There's overnight parking also if you want to walk on the ferry.

Nice, friendly people work at the terminal. Lots of cute shops within the 5 minute walking area of the ferry parking/waiting area.

We took the ferry to San Juan Island from Anacortes Ferry terminal. It was the direct so it took about an hour. The loading was very orderly and quick. We went to the upper deck to watch the crossing and enjoy the fresh air. There was an area for food and drinks and plenty of flyers of things to do on the islands.

Great views and efficient process to load and unload. There's a nice beach and path next to the water to explore while waiting to load and unload.
