This was my first civilian experience after retiring from the military. I was so incredibly impressed with the care and compassion of Dr. Avery's team. I've had a lateral meniscus tear since 2019. I feel as though I just landed on Planet Empathy! While on Active Duty, it took four months just to convince my former Army Primary Care Physician that I needed an MRI. Since joining my husband's insurance plan, I got an appointment with a specialist, had the surgery NINE DAYS LATER, and am already on my way to full recovery. I can't thank Dr. Avery and his staff enough for giving me hope that I'll be back to power walking and hiking without a cane by early spring. Thank you!!

Dr Avery comes with a great recommendation and now it is understandable . He is very compassionate in his demeanor , allows the time to share and explain his findings and put your mind at ease . I find that many physicians have the qualifications , the competence but not always the character or the humility and the compassion . That is what separates the good from the great . I have been challenged with a knee injury for a few years now due to an assault which is a constant reminder of the event however Dr Avery somehow manages to put my mind at ease while giving me possible solutions. I originally saw Dr. Avery for second opinion about my shoulder. I was already going to physical therapy for a few months, but seeing no results. He worked with me and tried additional non-surgical approaches. Since my first visit, he explained everything that was wrong with my shoulder with drawing and a shoulder model. He took time to listen to me and ask questions. I had a shoulder impingement. At no point was he pushing surgery, and left it completely up to me on what I wanted to do. After going through all the non-surgical approaches I decided on surgery. Throughout the whole process Dr. Avery and his staff were all very friendly and helpful. It was easy to reach out to them after my surgery for any questions I had. I did physical therapy for about 3 months following my surgery and made great improvements. Around 4 months after my surgery, I am back to working out and almost feeling at 100%. The surgery improved my shoulder and my strength. I highly recommend Dr. Anthony Avery!!
My experience with Dr. Avery has been excellent, he is a great doctor. After 5 years of me procrastinating my full knee replacement surgery, he finally convinced me to get it done. There's no other doctor that I would trust now that I've experienced the care that Dr. Avery gave to me during this process. He is very honest and wants the best for his patients. It hasn't even been a month and I'm already walking around the house without a cane or walker. The surgery was performed on my right knee and because of how well of an experience I had, I'm already thinking about when I'm going to do the same on my left knee. Dr. Avery and his team at OrthoVirginia are truly outstanding. I had a pretty serious break in my arm recently requiring surgery with a plate and 11 screws. Dr. Avery did an amazing job with the surgery, and my recovery has been great. He is obviously very technically competent and a great surgeon. But he also has a great bedside manner being very direct, easily understandable, and compassionate. These are rare attributes I have found with such a technically capable surgeon. His support staff from Nurses, Radiologist, and Anesthesiologist are also top notch and make for the whole solution. Thank you Dr. Avery!
