I started Capoeira with this group in October 2016 out of curiosity. They were completely awesome in welcoming in a total beginner and encouraging me to stick with it each time. Nearly a year later, I can't imagine my life without it. The group is made up of a skilled and energetic teacher and a talented, open-hearted, diverse group of students. You'll learn all about movement, music, culture, history and yourself by taking these classes. Capoeira is so much more than a physical practice. I strongly encourage you check this out!

My husband and I (both capoeiristas) moved to Bend in May 2016. We knew our stay would be temporary (about a year in total), but we wanted to connect to the capoeira community nonetheless. We are SO happy we did! UCA Bend fosters a supportive, fun, creative atmosphere, and we basically found a brand-new family (that we still consider family, even though we're out of state now)! If you want to try a new activity that also facilitates staying healthy, learning new music and cultural traditions, and discovering brand new parts of yourself, check out UCA Bend. Embauba and the familia will take care of you -- whether you're brand new to the art or have been practicing for years! Axé!

The capoeira scene in Bend is welcoming and close-knit community! Egos are left at the door and the goal is to learn, play, and support each other. Classes are all beginner friendly and incorporate the history, culture, music, and the game of capoeira. Expect to smile and laugh a lot... and also a little sore!

There are a great group of capoeiristas in Bend! Embauba is both passionate and patient in engaging people around him. He has come to my anthropology class at OSU a couple of times now to share his insights into the history, movement, and music of capoeira. His joy and enthusiasm for capoeira is contagious. Thank you for being part of the community!
