I stopped by this Mamajuana Cafe location after hours with friends. On Saturday nights it becomes a lounge / club. There was no cover charge or entrance fee. The drinks were good but not sure about the prices since it was my friends treat. The crowd was mature and security was pretty tight. I'd return again.

First and foremost when my family and I arrived to this restaurant after making 8pm reservations and arriving on time, we had to wait a whole hour at the bar before my family and I could be seated. So we decided to order drinks from the bartenders who appeared to be very nice to us. As we were having our drinks at the bar, we noticed that the owner John was being very unprofessional behind the bar screaming and pushing around his workers forcing them to do things out of the ordinary while they were supposed to be attending to us. He used vulgar language and appeared to degrade them with his words. I saw him push one of the bartenders out of his way as he was serving us our drinks. I found this extremely unprofessional. Finally after an hour, we sat down at our "reserved table" to order hour our food. The food took over an hour to come out of the kitchen, which appeared to look very dry and cooled down by the time it got to our table. The food was over-seasoned and way too salty. This was not a good experience for me and my family at all. Very unprofessional, and with an owner like that, I will never come back to eat at Babalu ever again! If I could give this restaurant 0 stars because of its poor unprofessional service and its food, I would!

Awesome place to eat food is delicious the people are great you don't wait much to be seated and very attentive to there customers give it a 5 . I originally gave this place a 5 but today the paella was not the same as 3 weeks ago. But whoever they had they need to bring them back. the paella was so i can't explain but it was not the same as last time it was perfect rice was ice and red clams was set aside with this nice red sauce. this time the rice was way to soggy no taste pale just not right or the same . the after taste just didn't like everything else as far as the people they are awesome from the manager to the staff. i usually order to take home

I have had better but the Empanadas were good. I had Mojitos to drink which were very good. I also had Margaritas at the after party they have and those were also good. The wait staff were very attentive and helpful. The decor is very nice, warm & relaxing. The music can be very loud.

The place is alright but what is going to ruin it, is the manager/owner John Rivera. I seriously believe he is unstable and should be in a business that limits his interaction with the public to O. He's either overly friendly or downright rude. I personally believe he might be bipolar. If he's not making inappropriate comments to your girl he's coming over and being too damn familiar with you. If he is not the principal owner i would suggest to who ever is to regulate him to the kitchen where he wont run the chance of offending any customers. Don't take my word for it go on yelp or Google these sites are riddled with similar complaints.

I've been to Babalu's twice. The food was good on both occasions, drinks were good too. First time I went was when they first opened up. Waitress seemed a little nervous but she did really good, great service, very good experience. Second time I must have had about 5 different people come to our table asking if everything was okay. It was a bit much, too intrusive. I think they were trying too hard to please us. Overall, the food, ambiance, and the mood was quite nice. The only downfall was that on both occasions they came back and told me my debit card was declined even though I had plenty of funds in my account. Not cool! Overall, I would recommend Babalu's on E. Tremont Ave.
