Internet service is consistent and doesn't cut out like Mediacom does. Glad I switched.

A monopoly ISP here in Brookings, SD so it charges double what other cities charge (70 instead of 30 per month) under the disguise they give you a landline telephone that is unnecessary but you are required to get it in order to get internet. They tell you there are other local companies but that is a lie since the other company only deals with the outskirts of the city only. The company is also owned by Brookings Municipal Utilities a city non-profit which is a conflict of interest and why this scam is continuously ongoing.

I was charged 518.00 dollars for two months of internet. I am college student at SDSU and my scholarship doesn't come in the middle of month so they turned my account off. They then proceeded to tell me I needed to pay 225.00 for reconnection fee, all while I need internet because the campus is shutdown and my classes online. Thanks a bunches, you guys are real winners!

I would love to be able to support smaller communications providers but unfortunately Swiftel leaves much to be desired, and they will nickel and dime you at every opportunity. Here’s how/why: 1. They force telephone service upon you, which you must also pay for, to get internet services. Installation fees are 99. 2. Their billing system is unforgiving. If you miss a payment because it’s slipped your mind, you were traveling, etc. they will disconnect your service within 10 days rather than tack the previous month’s bill on to the current month’s like any other utility/communication provider/service I have experienced. 3. To reconnect they charge a 140 deposit 20 reconnection fee. 4. If you are dissatisfied with their services they will charge you an early termination fee which is a minimum of 100. 5. Their communication services, i.,e., the internet, is often slow and laggy. I find when I use the internet on my cell phone at home I will often toggle off the WiFi and use my cellular data because is more reliable. I’ve also had to frequently unplug my modem and reset it to get the internet to work again. 6. ETA: During The pandemic they will not enter your home. If you’re a new customer you’re out of luck. You will have to go to the other provider in town. If you move to a new residence that had previously had their services they will still charge you 30 to hook everything up yourself with the instructions they email you, i.e., 30 to plug your own router into your own wall your own self. The other service provider in town doesn’t have a great reputation either, but at this point I don’t see how much worse it could possibly be. If you’re a new consumer, I’d strongly consider my options before going with Swiftel.
