Our kayaking tour with Blackwater Adventures was phenomenal. The area is gorgeous and full of wildlife. The staff was incredibly helpful. Matt welcomed us and got us excited about our trip. Our guide Mike was the highlight of the tour. The beauty of the area stands on its own, but Mike's knowledge of the history and ecology of the area was what made this a 5 star experience. He was great with our young daughter and made us feel confident in the water even though we had never kayaked before. I would very much like to experience one of the other tours Blackwater offers in the future. I highly recommend.

We booked a kayak tour at Blackwater Refuge for two in late October on a whim. It was absolutely perfect! Our guide, Matt, was exceptional. His family has been in Dorchester County since the late 1600's and he shared many interesting historical facts about the area. He was very knowledgeable about the local environment and birds, showed us where bald eagles nest and other highlights of the beautiful river. Matt also gave us pointers about where we could find pelicans and white herons nearby.

Staff was very friendly. It's family owned and happened to have been helped by one of the family members. She was very sweet and full of information. Definitely going back a few more times before the winter comes, and it's week worth the drive from DC. Very relaxing.

Friendly people, great service, and beautiful Chesapeake scenery! We paddled around the calm water for over an hour and spotted osprey, blue heron, and a nesting pair of bald eagles with their young. Staff were pleasant and helpful, and gave us a local's take on where to get the best crab. Highly recommend!
