Chalmette Battlefield is a family friendly place were everyone can learn about the Civil War. There are activities for kids with Rangers, cannon crew artillery demonstrations (on specific dates though, check there website!), a museum and a visitor center were you will find all the information you need. They are closed on all federal holidays except for Memorial day and Veteran day. Bring a lunch and enjoy a day in History that you won't forget!

Great historic site. You can drive around the battlefield at your own pace and read the different placards posted. Inside the visitor center the park rangers were more then helpful and seemed eager to share their knowledge with whoever wanted to listen. Also, inside the visitor center they have a couple movies explaining the battle and historical artifacts you can read about. There was no fee for the site but they did have a small gift shop you can purchase some souvenirs at. Will definitely visit again just not in the middle of summer.

Wish I'd had more time to spend here! Small visitor center but full of educational information about the history of the site.

The visitor center is small for a National Park. The video presentations about the battle for New Orleans were excellent. I walked away with a better understanding of the battle and why Andrew Jackson became so popular. Staff well versed in the history of the site.
