Not a great experience, makes me not want to return to the city. Enforcement of covid rules is lopsided, and aimed at measures that will not make a difference in public health. Measures that will give the tourism industry here a false air of doing something, especially those which won’t make a difference (given the latest science on the virus) are prioritized. Buildings are packed and full, social distancing ignored and not enforced, especially in the pricey businesses around the yacht club. The free, open air areas around parks are policed heavily. People walking alone 30 feet from others are instructed to put their mask back on (if it’s off to get some fresh air for a moment) and told about a city mandate. Unfortunately, in open air with lots of space between people, adding a mask is about as effective as weaning a condom during the “dinner and movie” portion of a date. Sure wish they’d focus more on the high-risk parts of tourism, like the crowded indoor spaces, but I guess that’d be policing the high rollers more than they’re comfortable doing.

PHIL'S WORLD TRAVEL

Forever Caught in History Whenever we come to town our first stop is the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Center. Their knowledgeable and assistive staff in Jennifer Aiken's team have everything at hand that enables us as a tour operator to professionally counsel our European clients before they visit this premium destination in the Old South. And all those tourism experts in the CVB leave no doubt about how much they love their city - one more reason for us at PHIL'S WORLD TRAVEL to warmly recommend their excellent service with our 5 star rating.

We purchased a Gray Line City Tour/Fort Sumter Tour Combo from staff at the Visitor Center. However, when we arrived at the ferry dock after the city tour, they initially refused to issue us boarding passes, saying it was sold out and the boat was over capacity. Only after we argued and asked to talk to the manager did they agree to let the boat be over the Coast Guard Capacity and issue us Boarding Passes. There should be better communication between Visitor Center Staff and the ferry line before money is accepted and tickets issued.
