I would pick zero stars if I could! I’m completely annoyed with this place! You try to make an appointment to visit a loved one they can’t be bothered to call you back! The activities director Jackie and Cynthia have ONE job to do and can’t even do that! They’re always sorry about staffing, and sorry about making mistakes, then act like they’re doing you a favor by “pulling strings” and allowing you a brief window visit! Please!!! If you would pick up the phone or call people back, there wouldn’t be an issue!! You can’t fake a smile and apologize every time! Do your job for once!!!

The activities offered to the residents, as well as the food, the dining room, the welcoming and beautiful lobby, and the support staff were all outstanding; beyond what I could ever have hoped for. All the people involved in these areas showed tremendous love, patience, and respect for the residents. However, in my personal experience involving my mother's care, I found a few of the nurses and the hall supervisor to be negligent; not communicating or following up when it was necessary to do so. Just be sure to advocate, advocate, advocate.

We chose this facility because we were told it was a 5 star rehab facility. PT and OT were 5 stars. The nursing staff was sub standard. I would give nursing a low 2. My mom was in there because of a hip replacements. It took up to 3 hours for a nurse to respond to a call for pain meds. I asked to speak to the nursing director the next day. Evidently it was not important enough for them to come see me. I never saw them after requesting it thru the nurse supervisor. Avoid this place because nursing is the most important factor in rehab. Of course they won't post this. It tells the truth and they can't and won't deal with it.

My mother in law was in Hillcrest for 2 weeks. During that time, her sheets were never changed, bathroom was never cleaned. The food was bland and served cold every day. Her pain was not managed for the first 4 days until she was given a lock box and control over her own medication. Contradictory information given about discharge and medications that could have been handled prior to discharge that was poorly managed especially for a holiday weekend. Physical therapy staff was great, especially Scott. Aides were good. Her nurses Dee and Nicole were great. We would NOT recommend this facility because of all the issues that we had. It would have been much worse if we were not so vocal.

Nursing and therapy staffs are both competent and caring. Having worked with many skilled nursing facilities over the past 20 years, I think Hillcrest is by far the best in Durham. It would be my first choice for anyone!
