Great stop along the way. Doesn’t have to take all day if you don’t want it to. Fun drive from Flagstaff through Sunset National Monument and then hit Wupatki Ruins in the way out of town. The 1 guide book was informative and well written to provide context and self guided tour. The inside doesn’t have much in the way of educational opportunities during COVID. More of a small gift shop at the moment. Clean bathrooms and friendly staff. Glad we went.

We took this trip out to the excavated ruins because we saw it on a map at the Grand Canyon Desert Watch Tower. We are so glad we did. This place exudes the majesty of the ancient, indigenous people and their current descendants. The sheer manpower and ingenuity to create this community and all of the surrounding villages in the area of arid, low precipitation environment is mind boggling. We got the little trail guide for 1 and it was worth way more than that for the information you get during your walk through. Take the time to understand what you're looking at, you'll get a deeper appreciation of what occured here and why. The volunteers were amazing, helpful, and truly passionate about their love for this treasure. Glad they have this and equally thankful they no longer actively excavate. Preserving in place for future generations and the Hopi people is best.
We visited Wupatki Ruins after seeing Sunset Crater, admission to either includes both! Wupatki is a beautiful contrast to the lava flows at the crater. Approximately 15 or 20 miles from the crater the red clay ruins and sweeping desert plains are achingly beautiful. Wupatki is awesomely preserved and well maintained. I highly recommend buying the 1 brochure from the park service which explains all the numbered points of interest along the path. Make sure you go all the way down to the blowhole!
Pretty large ruins and several interesting stops along the short walk. It was somewhat of a drive to get here (volcano loop), but it did offer a nice stop. We were pressed for time, so we didn't stop at any of the other driving stops along the way. Felt this one destination was a good overview of the ruins in the area.
One of the most beautiful and best preserved Ancestral puebloan ruins in all of Arizona. The landscape is equally as beautiful. The visitor center is informative and has restrooms too. Highly recommend those who are sightseeing to take the loop to visit Sunset Crater and Wupatki you wont be disappointed
Six hours is what it took me to fully see the ruins, but since I enjoy learning about history, it was very much worth it.
This was a very interesting experience. I enjoyed learning about the history of the Pueblo and the surrounding areas. My kids also enjoyed seeing these sites and experiencing the history.
Such a gem of so close to Flagstaff! Absolutely peaceful and awe-inspiring.
