I love getting to visit here. Given the condition the fort was in when it was taken over, it is still very well preserved and cared for. I love visiting the small gift shop, as there are plenty of nice finds. It's a great place to learn about history, however difficult or painful that history may be. There are beautiful views of the ocean as well.

This was a very impressive place...was surprised to see that is was only a state historic site rather than a national one. This site was actually better than some national historic sites. Visitor Center was also nice with a lot of history in it...plus the staff was very friendly. Only knock would be that it would have been cool to actually go inside the Fort.
Fort Fisher is located at the end of Kure Beach, just a short drive outside of Wrightsville. Fort Fisher has many different opportunities to give out. There are gorgeous trees where you can hammock with a view of the ocean. You can walk around the old battlegrounds. You can fish and walk along the water. Or you can even walk to a completely isolated island across the shore, which you can walk along rocks to when it is low tide.
Great place to visit and always has been from when I went as a child, took my children, and visited again.. The people that help you are awesome. I even purchased some gifts from there gift shop and my son loved them.
Great clean park. Love visiting everyone i am in the area. Clean facilities and park. Well maintained and safe place for a walk through history.
