My grandmother came to Salmon Brook from Hartford Hospital in the midst of Covid. We were very nervous but she needed therapy after her surgery. The staff were amazing. The team communicated with us constantly letting us know how Grandma was doing, we had a bunch of FaceTime calls and Grandma was doing great. She's back home now recovering after a terrific stay. I can't speak highly enough about the entire team and the experience at Salmon Brook. Thank you all!

If I were able to give negative stars, I would. Luckily my mother has just moved out of this death trap of a facility, and the wound on her foot is being evaluated by staff at her new residence. They found that in the three weeks since her accident occurred at Salmon Brook, the wound has become so severe, they do not feel Salmon Brook properly cared for it while under their supervision. This is not the first problem she had there, simply the most recent. The four staff members and few volunteers that made her stay there bearable are not enough to ensure proper care for the residents. When you have to be hospitalized for severe constipation, that is not normal. And when the supervising nurse is condescending and unwilling to help; the frustration makes you find an alternative residence... and legal guidance. This facility used to be wonderful... so sad to see how terrible it has become. If you love your family member, do not put them in this facility.

I have heard horror stories about leaving loved ones at Nursing Homes and Rehab centers but couldn't imagine that they could be true. Well, not until we had a situation whereby my father-in-law who suffers from early Alzheimers/dimentia but very much aware of right and wrong and fully capable of communicating his needs and wants. He fell about 4 weeks ago and we thought it was a good idea to bring him to HH ED to make sure that he was ok. HH thought some rehab was in order, so we admitted him to Salmon Brook, wow, if we could do it all over again!! My mother-in-law visited him every day, brought him snacks, change of clothes, etc... but on a number of occasion, he was not even wearing his own clothing?? Go figure... when she asked about taking his dirty laundry home, the response was that he had none. We found this to very true, because not only did he not have dirty clothing, in almost 3 weeks of being there, he had not been showered. To get updates on his condition, on his expected date of discharge, his lack of being cleaned, etc was non-existent. He cried daily to leave, he explained why he wanted out and actually was attempting to climb out the window during one of the visits but my mother-in-law assured him he would be leaving. We need to take care of these people that built our cities, our communities, those that fought and engaged in what we all have today, those that have been an intricate and integral part of our past. They have their dignity and I for one am very sorry we ever agreed to have him stay at Salmon Brook. I would not wish that stay on my enemy!! Shameful, absolutely shameful. I hope that these posts are reviewed because his stay was an absolute nightmare and someone should be auditing and investigating this horrible care.
