I've been a student at this school for around two years and I can't recommend it enough. This is a real community, with a national and international scope and I'm proud to be apart of it. There really is something for everyone; if you only want a good workout, the school provides that. If you want to learn how to play an instrument, sing, or dance, the school provides that as well. If you want history, philosophy, or a competitive environment to push you mentally and physically that is also provided at this school. Ultimately it all depends on what you want out of it. I've seen Mestre Recruta and other students work to provide an environment that is welcoming to all kinds of folks and a willingness to learn and augment a teaching style or practice to make a class equitable to all present. This is only one of the reasons I keep coming back. If you want to give Capoeira a shot, this is the place to do it. Hope to see you around.

UCA Hayward has been a home for me from the moment I walked through the door. Mestre Recruta is a tremendous teacher and leader, and the bright energy of the community is like no other. I had never done capoeira before, but was welcomed in with open arms and have been supported throughout my entire time here. Mestre Recruta makes classes fun and accessible for all levels and also teaches culture, history, and music of capoeira. Class prices are extremely reasonable and absolutely worth every minute. Highly recommended!

This place is great! I've trained a bit in some other martial arts circles but this was a lot more fun due to the way the classes are structured and how the community works. Maestre Recruta checks the skill level of all the people participating and adapts accordingly; it's great to have that personal touch to the class as initially, it's hard to get any martial art maneuvers (this is true for all martial arts). all the classes I attended were fun and productive. Can't ask for anything more than that!

It’s been almost seven years since my children enjoy UCA community, Chris it’s a great teacher, he really put all of his energy into his students. It’s a great place to make friends for life. We really enjoy been part of UCA family!!!

This school is amazing place to find community, fitness, culture, movement. Capoeira is dance, capoeira is fight, capoeira is music, capoeira is story, capoeira is acrobatics. Capoeira is all these things but without a great teacher it is none of these things. Recently lost the space due to a fire. But fortunately because of the great community behind the school a new space will open up soon. Mestre Recruta puts in all his life force to this school and you can tell when you watch the enthusiasm his kids participate with. The adults program is welcoming for all ages and sizes and levels. Love this place!

Capoeira for any who venture in , is upfront be healthier physically, flexible, more agile, for all ages, and is so much more, a place to build confidence, comradely, friendship for years to come, wait but there’s more, is a place to to sing, learn to play music, capture your rhythm in body and mind. Yet I’m still scratching the surface here, few that I know can mentor and has the knowledge to teach adults and amazing with kids as Mestre Recruta, for the 10 years I’ve known him. On top of his game, wears this art form from his heart to his sleeves. Empowering so many and all of this magic happens at this place, UCA Hayward! Give it a try!

UCA Hayward is AMAZING!!! The the teachers, the students, the community as a whole is reason enough to go. It is one of the most welcoming and accommodating schools I've had the pleasure to take classes at. Mestre Recruta has a way with both kids and adults, and his music is equally as beautiful as his movement. Love this school and community. 12/10
