The coastal battery, Fort Canby, served thru several wars being modernized each time. WW2 brought it to a climax with the addition of a radar station. The big guns are gone; but the fortified embattlements are still there to wander thru and to roll oneself back in time to appreciate. The scenic location at Cape Disappointment also doubles as a museum dedicated to Lewis and Clark. During the current pandemic that facility remains closed.

First of all, it was known as Fort Canby State Park until 2005-06. It's still Fort Canby, it just happens to be located inside Cape Disappointment. Fort Columbia is still called Fort Columbia. The batteries are great, my one gripe is that the Coast Guard needs to figure out a way to allow public access to the two gun batteries on their property, one being historically significant in that it was the last mortar battery to be built in the United States. And we can't even see it. They don't even use it for anything.
Enjoyed seeing the historic fort right next to the modern visitor center. Very clean and safe for the whole family, couple of picnic tables as well if you can snag one... Highly recommend!
Attention: discover pass required! so there r 2 ways to go from the parking. Fort Canby n interpretive center located in the same area(paved trail but pretty steep). The light house trail is 50% dirt(up down hill) n 50% paved(long slope). people say abt the light house but we liked hiking.
This was actually a fun place to go hangout. It wasnt bad. The hikes were actually easy and not to far out. Would highly recommend anyone to go out and do it!
