One of my favorite hikes and spots in Los Angeles. Easy hikes that take you through the Old LA Zoo and up into GriffithPark. You can explore the old animal cages with great views of Glendale. There is a Carousel down by the parking lots that is usually open when the world is not in a health pandemic. Lots of parking. Great picnicking and just laying in the green grass!

Good for hiking trails, or picnics!! The little caves are so trippy, wish I was able to post videos on here, cause It definitely reminded me of the candy man movies!

My fiancé and I went there on a Friday morning, and it was pretty empty which was great. Beautiful and wide array of majestic creatures, although my favorite were the otters. Some parts of the zoo need renovation, but it was mostly good. It doesn't really compare to the Old Los Angeles Zoo, but the animals seemed happy and we'll cared for.

Great Day. Went on a Saturday. Parking wasn't as easy as a week day, I recommend parking on one of the side streets. But you do risk having a vagrant bust your windows during a break in. In CA the homeless are allowed to do whatever they want and they exist in huge numbers. I have lived here all my life and have NEVER seen it this bad. The city council has tied the authorities hands together and doesn't want anything done about all the NASTINESS. Zoo is pretty far from the usual nasty homeless guy hangouts, so it's a better local to take your kids. And it's near the Beach so take your beach stuff and watch the sunset after.

while i was still in elementary school, i was in something called the B.R.I.D.G.E program. i completely forgot what they taught you or what it was about but i remember taking a field trip here with a bunch of other students. when on the bus, i wasn’t pretty stoked bc i thought it would just a regular old zoo but i held my gasp when we got there. yeah, it wasn’t big but it was quite the place for a kid to roam free and let their imagination run wild. i absolutely loved every inch of it. exploring the old ruins of what was left behind got me this feeling of uneasiness but also fascination. we took a hike up the trails and the view was amazing. i had such a great time while there. i wish i could’ve taken photos but alas, i was only 10 and didn’t have access to a phone. it’s been 6 years since that very trip and i miss the whole experience of it. it may not be much but it sure was very interesting and historical. it’s sad to learn how animals were kept in these incredibly small cages, not being well kept but this was 5 decades ago. really recommend going here if u wanna relax and loosen up a bit, take a hike with your dog (on a leash ofc), or just sit in the lunch tables they have sitting there for lunch. gonna ask my parents if we can go back sometime this year or the next. :)
