You can tell a lot about a place when you get that first cup of coffee. Thick mugs, fresh coffee and cream. With a good start like that the bar was set high. Our waitress was very kind and friendly. The atmosphere was what you would expect from a small diner and the place smelled fantastic. Being our first visit we picked random items from the menu. The food was excellent, eggs cooked perfect, portion sizes were very good and everything was fresh. When you go to a diner you don't expect to spend a lot of money and this place nailed the values aspect of a diner. Two people with food and drinks for 25. Yes please! We will definitely be back.

A charming diner with delicious food. I love the Canadian flare which is so unique in the area. The poutine was authentic and delicious! I had the Mr. Ben, and I thought the bacon was some of the tastiest I've had from a diner. The pancakes were perfect and fluffy. My boyfriend enjoyed his over easy eggs and we thought the corned beef hash and home fries were also so good! Much better than a lot of diners for sure.
Poutine is authentic and very good. Cozy and warm atmosphere with friendly staff. Attentive service and the pricing is not expensive. Will come again for sure the next time we are in the area.
Sadly disappointed. I had ordered take out for the first time here earlier in the week and the poutine was good, (the only reason for the second star). I brought my GF in on the weekend to try their breakfast. Upon arriving we were told it would be about a 15 minute wait. Fine. 40 minutes later we finally were called from our car to come in for a seat. We ordered immediately having had plenty of time to look over the menu. After being walked by countless times with no acknowledgement of how much longer we had been seated (another 40 minutes!) and watching countless take out orders go out as we sat with cold coffee we decided we should leave so we could actually get served food somewhere else. I know what time we arrived and have time stamps on my phone from them calling and text messages that were sent while waiting. I am not exaggerating the wait time. The most disappointing part is that they simply watched us get up and leave without even a mention. They even had my phone number and could have apologized or offered some sort of notice of how long we waited only to end up leaving without being served. I have never waited over 90 minutes for a simple breakfast. I will also mention that they were not even at full capacity when we went. It is very unlikely that I would ever go back after this experience.

Great slice of Canadian Fare in CT! I was told about Chez Ben by a few people so I had to try it. I'm French-Canadian by blood and someone who enjoys a good poutine so I had to go. This to me is the best poutine outside of Montreal! I had the regular (plain poutine) and a burger and was very happy with both. The other poutines are very good as well (wife had tried some). The service was quick, friendly, and on point and as stated above the food was very good and the portions were a good size. I gotta go back for that and to try a few other things that caught my eye on the menu. I highly recommend Chez Ben!
