I used to go frequently to the ale house when I lived in Milwaukee in the 1990s and 2000s. In fact..it was one of my faves. It had excellent dinners at a fair price. I was in town again recently and knew I had to return but was shocked at how empty the place was. I know the pandemic has had a large effect on restaurants but there had to be another reason. I think I know why....to my amazement they didn't have any dinner specials...because they stopped serving dinners!. It used to be so busy at dinner time..that I could not understand this decision. My date and myself decided to stay anyway since it was a beautiful evening to eat outside on their patio But all they had was a variety of sandwiches. When I go out on a Saturday night..sandwiches just doesn't cut it. The food tasted fine but it wasn't anything I couldn't get at any sports bar. And the Ale House is a much more beautiful place so I expected more. It would be a good place for lunch but my 1 star rating is for their dinners..for which they do not have.

I've eaten here a few times and it's always been fantastic. Tasty burgers, classic Wisconsin curds, and great beer. The cheese sauce they serve with the pretzel...omg I could drink it. The inside has a fun atmosphere and the outside patio is lovely being right on the river. Highly recommend!

The food and beer were so good I had to go back the next day to try other things. Victor took care of everything and I had a really good time when I was visiting with friends the previous night. The beer is also great. I tried 7 of them and all of them were good.
