Even though the public can only visit once a year on Member's Day, this is an amazing place to go, if you get the chance. If you donate 35 you can get two tickets (to the following Member's Day; 75 for four tickets) for the event that happens in/around June every year. The staff that runs the Primate Rescue Center are the kindest people you could meet. Not only is their warmth to others infectious, they also spend countless hours making sure every single primate in their care is fed and healthy. They even spend their time outside of the normal care to educate the public and assist in finding the best home for newly rescued primates. If you get the opportunity to use some of your time to volunteer and are responsible and serious about protecting yourself and the primates, I'd definitely recommend spending a few hours a week to help out the animal care staff. Getting to know the staff and the primates in their care is rewarding enough. However, part of the personal fulfillment comes by the more time you spend there, the more you get to see the individuality of each primate's personality. Some will love to see you your first visit. Some will be nervous or might hate the sight of a new person in their personal space but will eventually be comfortable with you and begin to love seeing you every time you visit. Then some will just prefer to stick to themselves. Occasionally, they may even surprise you with a welcoming chirp or an affectionate lip smacking. You also start to recognize the many chimps, monkeys, and gibbon by name, which is part of the fun of returning again and again. I would definitely recommend donating to the care of the primates (administrative costs are taken care of separately, so your money goes straight to the animals), or spending some time volunteering on-site or off-site (suited for out-of-towners or those too busy to make the trip) for this special place.
