I love using the ferry to bypass my equally costly tunnel commute to Portsmouth from Norfolk. If you time it right, you can watch the sunrise and or sunset, and it is absolutely breathtaking. Sometimes (before COVID), my kids and I will be in outing where we just stay on the ferry. They loved it.
