Our first actual hostel revel in and green Tortoise has exceeded our expectations. The staff is brilliant friendly and greeted us a warmth welcome to the location, it all of sudden made us experience at domestic. it is an awesome place with taking walks distance to Chinatown & Pier 39. We stayed at the alternative side of the annex constructing at the 3rd floor with extremely good terrifi perspectives of San Francisco at night. it is truely hard to discover fault at this stellar hostel. They made our first hostel enjoy looks like home and a memorable live we are able to in no way forget about.

Stayed two nights, got some solid rest. Free billiards, clean bathrooms, bicycle parking, free breakfast and dinner (on select days). Some of my belongings were stolen from the common area and their CCTV couldn't catch the thief. Some staff treated me a bit rudely, but Jo, deep night staff, the chef, and the azn cleaning lady were all very nice.

The best hostel around. The staff are fantastic, the beds are comfortable, the showers are good (and come with soap, shampoo, and conditioner in each one), and all the free food can't be beat. There is no reason to stay anywhere else in San Francisco.

Great place to stay at for an affordable price. I stayed here during a conference when all of the hotels in the area were absurdly priced. The staff was friendly, and the building was clean. I stayed in the Annex building which is located down a small side street a few blocks away (131 Bartold St.) And while it seems a bit sketchy at first, it quickly became apparent that it was a perfectly safe area of town and I have zero issues, even at 2-3am when I was coming back from the event. The room was very clean, and the bathrooms we're well maintained. This was my first Hostel experience and I had assumed that sharing bathrooms and such would mean that I would constantly be waiting for other guests to finish up and that there would be a lot of overlap. I stayed for four nights, and I never saw a single guest. There were spaces available to go hang out with people, but you can also have alone time if you prefer. My only criticism of my experience in the Annex building is that it can get a bit noisy through the week. The Annex is located next to an elementary school of some sort. So I woke up to kids playing on the playground almost every day. Which is not something the Hostel can control. Overall, this is an absolutely excellent place to stay. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to save some cash while in the SF area.

Price is good and there are a lot of fun things to do. But I just wanted a place to take a shower and rest, and it was not a good experience for me. People are too loud and the hostel does not have signs or something to advise the guests to be more quiet. The place is also not very clean and there is no hot whater in the morning. At least it was not my case. Beside all that, is kind of nice. \u200d️

I absolutely recommend this hostel, the atmosphere is incredibly laid back and the staff are fantastic. It was very clean and comfortable. Additionally, the nightly events are worth going to, or atleast checking out. As a young woman traveling alone I was hesitant about hostels, I felt completely at ease here and can definitely say that green tortoise was the highlight of my trip.
