While my friend and I had a positive experience on our canoe, the entire process of payment and customer service was very disappointing and unwelcoming to students. At check in, my debit card was charged a whopping 500 — I was informed that this would be returned to me in a couple hours, minus the cost of having the canoe out on the water, which is the only reason I felt okay with it. I was told if it was not returned in a couple hours to call my bank. If I had been told differently, I would not have gone through with the charge and rental. 4 hours after my rental, the funds had not been returned to my account, upon which I called my bank who advised me to speak to the merchant as the funds would be returned once the transaction was completed. I return to the WAC, and was told that some banks hold the funds for a longer amount of time (up to a week) before returning them. As a UW student, I find it ridiculous that I must have 500 spare dollars in my bank account in order to take a canoe out for an hour — I can’t afford to be out 500 for a week. I’ve rented canoes/kayaks from many other vendors, who have always taken a piece of collateral in case something happens to the boat...never had an experience like this. The most ironic part is that the cost for the time I was out on the water was only 18.50. I’d suggest you go elsewhere without these crazy huge charges and issues.

Canoeing is fun. My friend being charged a 500 hold on her card is not. Was informed the money would be returned in 2 hours, and has since not been, 5 hours later. As broke college students, no one can afford to be randomly charged 500 for renting a canoe for only 1 hour. This is how much you pay for a deposit on an apartment, not for a lousy canoe rental. Next time just keep my ID while I rent like a regular place.

Great experience! They're taking reservations online and it's easy to check in once you arrive. They offer PFDs and they are sanitized after each use. Awesome time out on the lake!

Great place to kayak, prices are low. But the queue is big, better plan before coming
