Starting humbly in the 1950s, our founder and his brother operated a service station in Kimball, Nebraska. He soon discovered his passion was working with people, so he joined sales team at Phillips 66 and traveled the region learning the tough world of wholesale petroleum. In 1973, after many years on the road, and thousands of miles on his truck, he settled in North Platte. It was there that he leased, and eventually purchased, his very own service station that marked the beginning of R & C Petroleum. R & C Petroleum entered the convenient store business in 1991 and quickly grew to five stores across Central and Western Nebraska. During this time, their convenient stores held fuel contracts with Texaco, Shell, Conoco, Phillips, Sinclair* and many other national, name-brand suppliers. Times change and they realized that their customer’s buying habits were changing, too. Customer loyalty wasn’t with brands anymore, they followed price—U-Fillem was born. Now, instead of having to always stop at a Conoco or Sinclair because that was the credit card they carried, they had a choice. They could buy U-Fillem fuel from any convenient store or franchisee that was in their family of stores. With U-Fillem shopping the open market they could also pass along the savings, creating a loyal, long-term, customer base.
