Currently been in the waiting area for a little over 12 hours waiting to be admitted somewhere. A grand total of 3 staff members out of about 30 have been kind and respectful. The rest range between treating me like a toddler, a criminal, or both. I am here voluntarily.

The last time I came here, I waited for seven hours until 5am to get seen for a half hour, and then discharged. I later got a bill for 2000 and some change. I don't just blame the healthcare system. I blame the U of M Psych ER for thinking that 30 minutes of their time is worth 2 grand in medical bills. You may be thinking there must've been more to it than that, but there wasn't. I sat with a social worker and a doctor answering questions for a half hour, then waited for another hour and was discharged. I wish I had known they were going to charge me a bill I could not afford, for what was ultimately a useless visit. It's shameful that in a medical institution like U of M hospital, this is the best mental healthcare they have to offer. If you come here looking for help, expect to be squeezed and gouged for every penny they can legally get out of you. Results may vary, and not in a good way.

Was here with a young teen that needed to be admitted. Admission process is absolutely terrible. Little to no information. Waited over 8 hours. There should be a zero star rating for this place. Dont be fooled that this falls under the umbrella of the otherwise renowned 'University of Michigan' name. I'd suggest driving to other hospitals in nearby towns.

So disappointing for a top notch university psych program. The psych ER is a joke. I have severe ptsd and also bipolar disorder. I went to this ER 3 times. Only once did they admit me. It was for 3 days and I got zero help. They discharged me when i was still psychotic. I was also homeless and i believe thats why they didn't keep me. The other 2 times the psych ER released me despite being suicidal and having cut myself multiple times. They said i keep cycling in and out of hospitals and obviously need out patient treatment. I was homeless and severely paranoid and couldn't take care of myself. I overdosed because i was so paranoid and agitated it was the only way to silence the fear and hallucinations. Thank God Chelsea hospital saved my life U of M is highly irresponsible and only cares about money not helping people in crisis. Its inhumane how they force kids, psychotic adults, and people with trauma to wait for hours and hours on chairs with no privacy and no place to rest.

Worst experience I've ever had with my mental health. They treated me like a suicide. I said, I'd rather not exist than take another day of this pain from my anxiety/ panic attacks. They feel like heart attacks. So they strapped a alarm thing to my wrist, took all my belongings, and kept me there for 11 hours. Gave me testing for heart issues and then I sat in their chairs for hours waiting for results. Finally they give me one Ativan to take then send me home with a PLAN on how to deal. Seriously??? I will jump off a building before coming back here. Staff just takes their time and you tell your story blah blah but they just basically turn you away or keep you there for hours with no reasonable solution.
