Every baby who starts their life at our dedicated birth center lightens the load on the portion of our healthcare system dedicated to the ill during this crisis. In order to be eligible for birth center birth, a client must not have any symptoms of COVID-19.  While we ordinarily care only for healthy, low-risk clients, all members of the birth team are now being screened before entering the building.  We are taking great care to preserve Bellingham Birth Center as a disease-free zone in order to ensure the continued health of our licensed midwives, doulas and families.    ________________________________________________________________________________   Founded in 2004, and with over 1500 births under our roof, Bellingham Birth Center is the most established freestanding birth center in Whatcom County.   Accredited by the Commission for the Accreditation of Birth Centers, Bellingham Birth Center has always been a “community birth center,” striving to advance and support the local midwifery community, and providing a setting which makes midwifery care accessible and attractive to a diversity of families. The 6 licensed midwifery practices privileged at Bellingham Birth Center provide personalized, nurturing care in a calm, peaceful setting that feels more like a home than a clinic, and yet they are able to respond quickly if complications arise. It is a wonderful option for women having normal pregnancies who are Bellingham residents, as well as for those in the outlying areas of Ferndale, Lynden, Blaine, Maple Falls, Glacier, Nooksack, the Lummi Reservation, Lummi Island, and the San Juan Islands.
