I had just rushed through the area and attempted to get as many photographs as possible on my way out, though have always been intrigued by the story of Jamestown and simply needed to check it out. I've noticed a few new excavations were conducted, namely around the Captain James Smith statue where they apparently attempted to reconstruct a partial example of what stood there. For anyone that is disappointed by what remains on this site, need I remind them about what happened here?

There's not much to look at but the experience of standing there, where colonial settlement began, is quite fascinating. As you walk around, you begin to imagine what life was like in the early days of settlement and what else is buried beneath you, all waiting to be revealed and unearthed.

Everything about this place is fantastic! The living history presentation was great (better than most I've seen) and I can tell that they care about engaging with visitors.

Once you've done the Jamestown Settlement nearby, definitely come here to see where they actually settled. This was the best part of my trip to Williamsburg!

Great tour guides, very nice visit and extensive museum as well as the recreation of the fort it self. Definitely a good stop for a couple of hours of wandering around learning about the early days. The picture they paint of the reality of the early days of this settlement have gotten much better over the years.

This is an operational site, so your experience will be different from mine. They do a good job presenting what it must have been like for the original settlers. Well worth the lovely drive to and from.

This is essentially a restoration of the original fort that was built by the first arrivals at Jamestown. A lot of artifacts were recovered from this small area of the island, so it was exciting to walk in the footsteps of the first settlers. There are also some nice statues of important figures, such as captain John Smith and Pocahontas.
