When I first arrived I felt like I was home. It was warm and cozy compared to Maine’s usual cold winter weather. The scenery was overwhelming with beauty. I was greeted by the owner with some wine. It was a great way of ending a day full of hiking. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Suzy is very knowledgeable of Maine and gives your great advice in where to go hiking/sight seeing. The breakfast was superb. I’m looking forward to booking again in here.

We have a stay booked for July 2020 but with the pandemic we are wanting to cancel. We have been trying to contact Suzi for months with no luck. No response from txt, email, phone.

Excellent Choice! Highly Recommended. My husband and I stayed here on recommendation of a friend. Susi made us feel welcome and at home straight away despite our late arrival. The environment is very welcoming and relaxing. This home is clearly special and Susi has countless fascinating stories chronicling it's history as she is I believe something like the14th generation stewarding this gem. The food and service are excellent, and Susi and her awesome help are very accommodating to food allergies/requests. The views are outstanding as the location is prime. Also there is a fantastic hike just up the street from the Birches called Flying Mtn which makes an excellent sunrise or sunset walk. Get ready to relax and enjoy! Thank you Susi, Patricia & Eric

Wonderful stay at this quaint, comfortable B&B with tons of character and family history. Susi, the owner and host was fabulous, hospitable, knowledgeable and accommodating. She took the time to know us and learn about our interests. She then proceeded to customize our itinerary with detail (places, maps, routes, parking etc.) She gave us great recommendations for restaurants with water views. Wow and can she cook! Her gourmet breakfasts were delectable. We stayed 5 days in early June 2017 and every day we did something new and exciting. Thanks for all your help and patience Susi. You really helped to make this trip unforgettable!! Hope to see you again soon!!!

Perfect!!! That one word sums up our experience at The Birches Bed & Breakfast in Southwest Harbor, ME! From the Boston area, we are repeat visitors to The Birches, and we haven't been disappointed yet! Susi Homer, our innkeeper, is an amazing hostess. Her full-course breakfasts can't be beat; the room (we like the Turret Room) is always in great shape; the housekeeping and other staff, including a special mention for Mike, are helpful to the Nth degree; and the grounds and water view can't be beat! Susi will put together a customized Mount Desert Island itinerary for you, if you wish. She did so for our party of four that included an electric boat tour of the harbor areas, a photo tour of the island, a two-hour birding excursion, and a horse-drawn carriage ride through Acadia National Park. All that was wonderful, but a stay with Susi at The Birches makes the vacation, as we said above, "Perfect!"

We visited in the off season -- it showed. Our suite was under repair. Handyman Pete, a nice guy, but intrusive & unprofessional. Upside: beautiful views & interesting old building

Beautifully decorated, spacious and very comfy rooms. Gourmet homemade breakfast was totally delicious! I was only able to stay one night but will return again soon on my next visit to Southwest Harbor.
